Grana & Mau

About Us

The Name

Firstly, I want to clarify that the name Màu has nothing to do with the chairman. Mao was my father’s name (short for Maurizio). This site is dedicated to him, as it wouldn’t exist without his heavenly support.

Màu also means colors in Vietnamese.

Grana is my last name, which in Italian means money, trouble, and of course, cheese.

How?
Grana & Màu started with a trip to Saigon in 2006. A return trip, I should say. I had the fortune of living in Saigon for four years, and since I left in 1998 I’ve been trying to figure out ways of returning.

A year later, Grana & Màu was born.

Why?

The idea is to dress kids in clothes that remind me of my very happy childhood spent partly in Italy and partly in England. I’m sure that you’ll agree that it doesn’t matter how badly behaved your child is as long as he/she looks damn good in his/her smock. I’m actually secretly thrilled when my mother brings out the family album for viewing.

It’s a little nostalgic perhaps to want your kids to look like Fanny & Alexander but I’m a firm believer that good taste, great quality, and a touch of class never go out of style.

I also noticed, as I spend a lot of time buying clothes for my uber chic niece that it was hard to come by reasonably-priced hand-embroidered high-quality clothes. Grana & Màu strives to make available to those of us with not-so-deep pockets the opportunity to dress their kiddies in formidable clothes fit for the little princes/princesses that they are.

I hope that you enjoy the clothing as much as I’ve enjoyed the process of creating it. And more importantly, I hope that your kids feel good and comfortable in them and have a childhood filled with happy memories.
